Our small but very passionate group of lifters at this month’s World Youth Championships in Thailand did us and our sport proud.
Sabah Chamoun smashed a long list of Australian youth and junior records by snatching 78kg and then lifting 95kg in the clean and jerk. Those weights took her to the top of Group C in the 58kg division.
Ben Ward snatched a personal best of 128kg and clean and jerked 148kg in the 85kg division, finishing … overall.
Tasmania’s Zac Millhouse finished top of the men’s 85kg C group, snatching 114kg and then successfully lifting 141kg in the clean and jerk.
Mia Gaudry, lifting at her first Youth World Championships, finished with 55kg in the snatch and 69kg in the clean and jerk in the 53kg division.
